In October 2018, Transición, the SF led by Canadian entrepreneur David Jacq, acquired Mapex, a leading Spanish provider of MES, from Marc Puig Esteban. The deal was supported by a dozen investors, including Alza Capital Partners, Istria Capital, WSC & Company, Relay Investments, Cabiedes Capital, León Bartolomé, and Bill Egan, among others.
At the end of 2025, after seven years of running the company, the shareholders announced the integration of Mapex into the Proalpha Group, one of Europe’s leading providers of ERP and business applications for the mid-market. The move aims to accelerate growth, innovation, and international expansion while ensuring the continuity of Mapex’s business, team, and technology roadmap.
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Barcelona, Mapex is a software development company specializing in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and digital solutions for industrial production. The company helps manufacturing firms transform their factories into smart, connected, and more efficient operations by collecting real-time data from machines and processes, improving productivity, quality control, traceability, and overall operational performance. Through its MES and Industry 4.0 technologies, Mapex supports industrial digital transformation, enabling organizations to optimize resources, reduce costs, and make data-driven decisions to enhance competitiveness and efficiency. Mapex employs roughly 100 people and supports more than 50,000 users worldwide. Today, 500 factories across the automotive, aerospace, plastics, packaging, metal processing, and food & beverage industries rely on its innovative technologies, including Maier, SMR (Motherson), and Camprofrío (Sigma Foods). Turnover has grown from €5.7M in 2018 to €8.4M in 2024, the year in which EBITDA reached €2.3M.
Proalpha, founded in 1992, employs around 2,500 people and supports more than 17,500 customers worldwide. Headquartered in Weilerbach, Germany, the company is one of Europe’s leading providers of ERP and business applications, ensuring intelligent interconnection and efficient control of all business-critical systems and core processes.
With this acquisition, Proalpha enhances its portfolio with an AI-powered MES, which will be integrated into its Digital Shop Floor and ERP solutions. At the same time, the Mapex platform will continue to be available as a standalone offering, optimized for use with third-party systems.
“With its AI-powered MES platform designed not only for discrete manufacturing but also for other key industries such as food & beverage and chemicals, Mapex fits perfectly with our quality and energy management solutions in the Digital Shop Floor business unit,” emphasizes Christoph Kull, President of Business Applications at the Proalpha Group. “With this acquisition, we also gain direct access to the Spanish market, one of the largest economies in the European Union. This allows us to address this promising market sustainably, leveraging our extensive solution portfolio for midmarket value chains.”
“Proalpha has an excellent position in the German-speaking region. We therefore consider the acquisition the right next step for the future of our solutions,” says David Jacq, CEO of Mapex. “Until now, expanding beyond Spain has been difficult because our sales network was limited. We expect significant synergies here moving forward.”
