After completing his MBA at the Kellogg School of Management, Deshawn Salter launched Heritage Clay Partners to acquire a single exceptional business and lead it with care and intention for the long term. The name of his SF reflects his philosophy: “Heritage” represents honoring the legacy, values, and culture built by a founder, while “Clay” symbolizes the opportunity to shape and mold the next chapter through thoughtful, hands-on leadership. Among the investors backing his search are Futaleufu Partners, Cerralvo Capital, Paltus Capital, Highland Creek Partners, Viam Capital, Legate Partners, Heritage Holding, Newbury Franklin, as well as several entrepreneurs and CEOs.
With experience across consulting, M&A, and operations, Deshawn grew up in Syracuse, NY, where he learned to value hard work, personal accountability, and community. His first entrepreneurial experience came as a teenager when he organized a snow-shoveling business. After earning degrees in Economics and Political Science at Yale, he began his career as a schoolteacher in an effort to give back to his community. He later transitioned into business strategy roles at Frontier Communications, Deloitte, and Bain & Co., where he advised executive teams across industries on operational improvement, growth strategy, and M&A.
Headquartered in Chicago, he is conducting a nationwide search for a profitable and growing business services or tech-enabled services company with at least $1M in EBITDA, strong margins (15%+), recurring revenue streams, and low customer concentration. Ideally, the company offers a differentiated product or service supported by an outstanding team that delivers exceptional customer service. An existing management team and key personnel committed to staying on post-transaction are essential.
