Serial entrepreneur Ed Butler, who began investing in the SF landscape in 2022, has teamed up with investor and entrepreneur Jim Simmons, who acquired Digital Care, a European device protection business, and served as executive chairman during its expansion and ultimate sale to a strategic acquirer in 2023, to launch Thalor Capital.
These two entrepreneurs turned investors aim to support exceptional operators on their journey through search and acquisition. They are not a traditional fund; instead, they invest their own capital and bring in co-investors on a deal-by-deal basis, each committing at least £200k per acquisition. Co-investors are carefully chosen for the experience, networks, and value they add, ensuring full alignment on the long-term performance of the acquired business. Thalor Capital partners closely with searchers at every stage: from search and deal structuring through acquisition, transition, and long-term growth.
Their focus is on the UK market, where they provide not only patient and flexible capital but also practical support and operational expertise, drawn from first-hand entrepreneurial experience. Past investments include Digital Care, Kinetico Health, Rowley’s of Northwich, Servicom, and Space. Investments typically range from £1M to £25M, with capital deployed in tranches and room for follow-on commitments, bolt-on acquisitions, or growth initiatives.
Thalor Capital offers a hybrid alternative. With permanent capital, no fund-cycle pressures, and a curated group of engaged co-investors, it provides flexibility and stability. At the same time, its entrepreneurial DNA ensures that operators are supported not only with capital but also with relevant, hands-on experience, positioning itself as a true entrepreneurial partner for acquisition-minded operators in the UK.
