João Paulo Oliveira leads Sobreiro Capital, a SF dedicated to supporting Portuguese SMEs facing succession challenges and with strong growth potential. He is backed primarily by foreign capital, including experienced SF investors from the US, Canada, Germany, Spain, the UK, and Portugal, such as Relay Investments, Istria Capital, Ambit Partners, Forti Search Fund Partners, and Birdmont Capital, among others.
João Paulo Oliveira began his career in Lisbon, holding management positions at Science4you and Worten before co-founding BiLD Analytics, a tech startup specializing in business intelligence and data science. After selling BiLD in 2022 to a London-based investment fund, he pursued an MBA at Columbia University in New York, where he discovered the concept of SFs. Following experience in venture capital (Greycroft and Alpha Partners) and strategy & M&A at multinational software company LexisNexis, he decided to return to Portugal to launch Sobreiro Capital in his home market.
“We know that many entrepreneurs struggle with planning the future of their companies. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition and unlock business growth while respecting the founder’s legacy,” explains João. He is currently seeking companies in Portugal with revenues between €5M and €40M. Despite his professional background in the technology sector, he is adopting a sector-agnostic approach and remains open to opportunities across various industries.
