Saramago is the family office of Eusebio Rubio Martín, co-founder and president of the supermarket chain Ahorramas. Alongside its regular investments in real estate and other alternative assets, Saramago ventured into the world of Search Funds a few years ago, becoming an LP in one of the first fund of SFs in Europe.
Seeking to take a further step in its commitment to this asset class, the company has decided to launch its own direct investment line towards SFs, with a genuine aim to assist entrepreneurs with its extensive knowledge of the distribution sector. They are seeking opportunities in the distribution, retail, and agri-food sectors, or those providing services to these fields.
Saramago is prepared to support searchers from the initial search phase who are interested in acquiring a company in these sectors in Spain, and they also intend to explore any equity gap opportunities for companies meeting these sectoral requirements, even if they are outside of Spain. Their investment strategy is highly hands-on, and they will also provide support from the board of directors. They aim to make between 1 and 3 acquisitions per year, with the first one expected to close in the coming weeks.
