Born in New York and the son of Uruguayan parents, after a solid experience in fund investment, Daniel Fernandez-Abarno decided to return to Latin America to set up ROU Partners, his commitment to bringing the exceptional entrepreneurial model in Uruguay. He also benefits from experience in the world of SF, having served as Principal at Kinderhook and SF Board Member (NeoAssist in Brazil).
His SF is backed by 20 international investors, including key players such as Ambit Partners, Ashford Venture Partners, Cerralvo Capital, Inversiones Cabiedes, Kinderhook Partners, KYR Capital, Paltus Capital, or TMB3, and serial SF private investor such as Marc Bartomeus, Neil Cuggy & Jonathan Ferrari, Rafael & Felipe Ruiz or Tobias Raeber, among others.
Daniel explains to us: “Historically described as the “Switzerland of South America”, the República Oriental del Uruguay (abbreviated as R.O.U., hence the name) has been an outlier within Latin America since its independence. While a small economy compared to its neighbors, it has the region’s highest GDP, an institutionally stable government that has been friendly to business independent of the political party in power, and both the healthiest democracy and lowest levels of corruption in the Americas. Local SMEs face significant pressures related to succession due to a rapidly aging population and low fertility rates. Search Funds represent an attractive option to leverage this ongoing demographic shift and capture an opportunity amongst the roughly 2.300 SMEs within ROU’s target size.”
