After 16 years of experience as Managing Director and Operations Director, rapidly growing and improving UK-based technology manufacturing SMEs into international export markets, Dean Curran partnered with NCA and began his search in 2023 for a family-owned light-manufacturing technology SME. He sought a company preferably supplying products for the low-carbon or environmental sectors with international market potential. He has just acquired Garner Osborne Circuits Limited, a leading UK specialist in PCB (Printed Circuit Board) manufacturing and assembly, located in Newbury, England. The acquisition was backed by Ethos Partners along with other relevant investors, with senior debt provided by ThinCats.
Established in 1991 by Mike Garner, who will remain a minority stakeholder in the company, Garner Osborne delivers UK market-leading PCBs, including rapid prototyping, small to medium-sized volumes, and large-volume offshore manufacturing. The company had a turnover of £12.9M in 2023, an increase of 15.7% from £11.1M in 2022. Gross profit was 34.5%, compared to 20.2% in 2022, and profit before tax was £2.1M, four times the profit reached in 2022 (£0.531M).
Dean commented: “I am grateful to Mike for trusting me to continue his legacy. I have been hugely impressed by the operational excellence and extremely high-quality PCB products that Garner Osborne manufactures, supplying a diverse range of customer sectors. The business has great potential for growth I’m incredibly excited to be working with the teams at Garner Osborne to help carry the business forward for a bright future.”
