Miguel Camino and Álvaro Horstmann share similar backgrounds: both have spent several years in corporate and M&A firms, followed by strategic consulting stints at Bain & Co and Kearney, respectively. They became roommates during their two-year MBA program at IESE, where they decided to launch Lauria Partners, a specialized firm focusing on the Aerospace & Defense industry.
Both entrepreneurs leverage strong family and personal networks to support this venture in the A&D space. They have successfully raised nearly 400k from 16 investors with exposure to the A&D industry and critical expertise.
They explained to us that allied countries will continue to expand military spending in the coming years due to geopolitical tensions and the objective of allocating 2% of GDP to defense. Specifically, in Spain, the Ministry of Defense has already increased its budget by 26% in 2023, and the highly fragmented industry is seeking M&A and consortium opportunities. Lauria Partners will screen through a universe of nearly 25.000 companies in Spain, with a special focus on the existing BITD (Base Industrial y Tecnología Nacional de la Defensa), covering segments such as aerospace, sea, land, weapons and ammunition, equipment and machinery components, electrical and communication equipment, cybersecurity, and logistics.
Their ultimate goal differs from that of the typical SF model; they intend to consolidate a sustainable long-term business project in the A&D space beyond the usual 5–7-year period which is normally driven solely by financial KPIs.
